I finally got my lazy ass to finish this. This took a lot longer than it should have, but I wanted to make sure it was to my perfection. Content wise, it's self explanatory. I took my two favorite wolf-riding characters from my two favorite works of fiction and made a crossover.
Unique to this process, I made some concept art, which I shared on my BlueSky, prior to making this piece for reference. The mask was the first element I wanted to expand on. I didn't just want to have Midna wear San's clothes. Instead, I wanted to combine the shape of San's clay mask with a Twili design like Midna's fused shadow. I figured this would work best with keeping Midna's colors and original design with some modifications. Next, I roughed out some ideas for Midna. I settled with giving her long hair to look like San's cloak. As for the rest of Midna's apparel, I gave her San's jewelry and made the armbands have a Twili design. I personally love Midna's true form, so I went with that version to use for the crossover. I tore her skirt to signify that this is Midna's true form while also making it look like she lives in the wilderness. The only weapon that both Midna and San have in common is the spear, so I went with Midna's spear that's seen near the end of Twilight Princess.
The wolf was an obvious choice and had to be Link. However, I wanted to take creative liberties and make him look more wolf-like than he does in Twilight Princess. For added effect, I gave the kodama korok masks to add more emphasis on the connections between Ghibli films and The Legend of Zelda. This also inversely parallels the two franchises referenced since Midna is wearing San's gear.
Overall, I wanted to do a piece of two things I love, since too often I make art to express what I hate about the world or what other people want to see.
