This piece is a reflection of how humanity ceaselessly grows, consumes, and ravages its resources like a cancer or disease. The image depicts a bacteriophage that forcibly injects its genetic material into another cell, presumably an egg cell, similar to how viral DNA is injected. This scene can be interpreted feministically as modern society being structured around the pursuit of biological legacy by men through assertive, discriminatory, and violent acts against women. The branch-like figures on the cell, or the protein fibers, are also reminiscent of dead trees. The protein fibers surround the site of infection, as if it were deforested land. This depicts the direct environmental impact humanity has on its reproductive conquest. The multitude of phages descending in the background illustrates that the attack on the cell is relentless despite the damage that has already been done. Regardless of our knowledge about our impact on the world, we continue to spread like a living virus, depriving ourselves and other organisms of resources, until our host can no longer sustain us.
